midPhase is a mid-tiered web hosting provider with over 120,000 domains supported by its servers.  It is a sister company to ANhosting.com and Autica.com.  All three companies have recently been acquired by a European web hosting provider by the name of UK-2 LTD of the UK.  Because it has been stuck in a very competitive mid-tier market, with little room to grow, midPhase decided to put itself up for sale.  It has been looking for a buyer of its shared hosting business since the beginning of 2007. UK-2 successfully completed the acquisition of midPhase in November of 2007.

UK-2 Group has been targeting the US hosting market in recent past and have recently completed the acquisition of US host Stargate. Acquisition of midphase is another piece of the puzzle that will allow UK-2 to be a competitive player in the American hosting market and provides a transparent expansion without having to invest in new hosting architecture. The acquisition of midPhase further will provide UK-2 with a much needed presence in the US market.  Likewise, by becoming a part of bigger organization within UK-2, midphase will have more access to technology and finance that will allow it to grow at a faster pace.

The big question in everyone’s mind right now is “What happens next?” Well, the short answer is nothing. UK2 has no plans to change anything at this time. UK-2 indicated that there are currently no plans to change the existing infrastructure at midphase, including maintaining status quo for the existing staff of affiliate support. midPhase will continue to operate as an independent business unit of UK2. This charter will allow midPhase, ANHosting, and Autica to continue to function as subsidiaries of UK2 and offering the same services under the same names. Dan Ushman, the co-founder and vice-president of marketing at midphase stated that little change will take place in the next 6-12 months.  However, his role as affiliate marketing manager will be reduced, making room for Matt Wolff as the new lead affiliate manager.
